I am an artist;

I am an educator.

Not one before the other.

They are inseparable and

enrich one another.

My philosophy of teaching embraces the importance of the individual in their creative journey.  A teacher - student shared approach to learning is very efficient in the art room allowing a safe space for students to explore, discover, learn, grow and create.

When students are involved in the planning and decision-making process, they become more connected to what they are learning.  Exposing them to guided discovery, motivation, and responsibility in their learning process helps them develop themes, and the start of their creative process reflecting on their own knowledge and thinking. I want students to identify and relate to the art they are creating, empowering them to discover what they value in themselves.

My role as an art teacher is to guide students in their learning process by supplying support, by bringing excitement in the art room through exploration, and by experimentation. By steering students down a path to discovery and to question concepts and ideas, art transforms their own experiences into new ideas.

Giving students the tools and the knowledge to explore, I believe that each individual can take something valuable from the art room. As an art educator if I am able to inspire students to think beyond their preconceived notions of their own potential, and to make them more aware of the visual and artistic world around them, then I feel full and inspired to keep creativity alive.
